Complete Tethered System or Separate Components? Define the Supply Scope

Compare buying a named tethered configuration with sourcing ground stations, airborne modules and accessories for an integration project.

The decision

Choose the supply scope according to what your team already owns and who will integrate the interfaces. A component purchase and a complete configuration require different quotation and acceptance details.

Start with an equipment inventory

List the aircraft, payload, ground source and accessories already available. Add model names and document revisions. This prevents an enquiry for a complete system from overlooking equipment supplied by the buyer, and prevents a component enquiry from omitting an essential interface.

A named aircraft configuration is a useful starting point when the platform matches the intended project. A custom aircraft or existing power chain may instead need a component-level review. Neither approach removes the need to check the actual operating conditions.

Assign responsibility at each interface

For each connection, record the two pieces of equipment and which party supplies the matching interface. This includes ground AC input, station-to-tether connection, airborne power output, mounting and any accessory control connection.

For separate components, agree who will integrate and evaluate the assembled system. Share drawings and existing equipment details early. A compatible voltage range alone does not address mechanical fit, thermal conditions or the aircraft’s response to power changes.

Compare the complete bill of materials

Ask us to identify included and optional items: ground station, tether, airborne module, mounts, connectors, accessories, transport cases and manuals. Keep consumables and recommended spares on separate lines. The list should make it possible to see what is needed before the first deployment.

Where the buyer supplies an aircraft, generator, pump or other equipment, put that explicitly in the scope. This makes quotations easier to compare without assuming that a price includes every item shown in an application image.

Agree the next review step

Request the model documents, the proposed equipment list and any open integration questions. For an existing DJI aircraft, use the current DJI systems catalogue to locate the relevant product. For custom integration, start with the airborne modules and explain the complete architecture.

The best next step is a configuration-specific quotation with a clear scope. It gives both teams a shared reference for reviewing delivery contents, documentation and acceptance requirements before committing to equipment.
